Original illustrated poetry by sndphoenix — about losing the best part of yourself, and finding it again.
Lost and Found
Or at least, it sure feels that way
Never further apart than just down the street
Except maybe on trips once or twice
For every “hello,” “good morning,” “good night”
I never imagined a life without you
Till you left with that stuttered “goodbye”
How wide of a space went uncrossed
What was life like, with only half of me there
And half stuck in the love that we lost?
“If I could meet you again, one more time…”
Funny that when the day finally came
The only words in my mind were “…Oh, hey”
I don’t know, there’s no word to describe
Like my eyes had been missing, or shut the whole time
And when I saw you the world turned bright
Did you think about me the same way?
Don’t answer, I’m fine just to have one more try —
...Whew.
It's been a long time since I wrote any poetry, and it was tougher than I thought. Feel free to leave me a comment, whether of glowing praise or raging contempt — either is fine! I’d also be happy to hear about your own experience with love lost (or found).
Thanks for reading.
