I wanted to fly away
I dreamed of it; behind the wheel,
with my foot on the pedal
speeding away.
my heart beating fast.
the sense of danger,
the rush,
even in my dreams, rebelling,
escaping.
like the song said
fly away
fly away
fly away
don't be afraid
I wanted to fly away to be free
the wings,
the feather
all but a picture
a symbol to mark the end
of the battle
of the race
to celebrate the beginning
of a life lived free.
