A generation of addicts;
no guardian throwing sticks.
An era of sophisticated thugs;
no discrimination against drugs.

An apparent abuse...
no reasonable excuse.
The disappearance of a generation;
a future under probation.

Toothless national laws;
a criminal code armed with flaws.
A government highly nonchalant...
apocalypse appears blatant.

Death still asks for more;
our hearts stricken by sores.
Our future fervently fades...
oblivion with sharp blades.

A sorrow-stained circumstance...
an ugly vice maintains a stance.
Tears in my pen's eyes...
death toll on an unrepentant rise.

According to the United Nations, everyday, over a 500,000 bottles of codeine are consumed by young Nigerians across the country, same with the intake of tramadol, rohypnol, marijuana, and other opioids, an alarming trend that has subtly eaten deeply into the Nigerian fabric with children of all classes having a field day abusing these drugs. But parents, stakeholders and the society continue to live in self-denial as a time bomb waits to explode.

This statistic is for Nigeria alone.

To all Steemians out there, lets join hands and fight drug abuse. Talk to our youths, sensitize them on drugs.

Lets save our generation!!!
