WE ARE BLACKS

Our beauty melts like morning wetness

in our smile lies the hope of our mothers

we build our dreams on the nest of hard work

we are as pure as crystal waters

we wilt our pains on life's splendour

beauty defines our existence

we reflect the roseate hues

of morning dews

the crimson of the sunset mellows us into stolid doggedness

We are BLACKS not bLACKS

though they call us shitholes*

yet we are not marred by their deceptive resolve

they stole from our lands and mime our mothers

With their wistful smiles they shatter our hopeful dreams

but we rise above the rubbles of suppression

we reach the crucible of pains and sorrows

yet, with highest hopes we embrace our tomorrow

We are blacks

They sunrise in our father's eyes

they moon in our mothers' night

we mould our fantasy into reality pictures

we paint our lips we the rainbow of truth

we colour our skin with negritude beauty

they cannot be like us

for in our imperfections we learn the paths of greatness

We are blacks

from a continent where the sun never set

where the moon never fail to embrace her lover

we tower our kindness on strangers

we embrace aliens as friends

we chase our glooms away with moonlight symphonies

In love we tune our silent melodies

We kindle our beauty with the flame of sacred love

We are blacks

though the path seems sore and hopeless

we toil on with the dexterity of our youth

beyond the reach of toil and care

we placed our dreams

we sow in morn and pains

we slack not when not in gain

We wait for the moon at the horizon

where the sun weds her lover

we peopled our heart we good conscience

We are blacks from the continent of heroes

we mourn our griefs with painted beauty

we build our dreams in the eyes of our mothers

we bear our conscience on our palms

that it may belie our wicked intents

love is our watchword, beauty is our logo

With dogged fearlessness we thrust truth

into the hearts of true mines

We are blacks, the last of the strong ones

We are the quintessence of beauty

We are blacks, the unsung heroes of earth.
