Spring Lies

Today, I woke up to rain, which made me remember this past spring, specifically, the month of April. In April, we writers and poets celebrate National Poetry Writing Month, or NaPoWriMo for short. One particular day, the skies were gray, it rained incessantly, and everything that had begun to bloom shriveled back into nothing. I did what any good poet would do, and poemed it.

spring lies

gray skies and nothing blooms
wooden limbs are falling
buds are crushed
under the onslaught of hail and shame
flooded roadways stall me
my field of dreams is mud
one cracked foundation later
and my landscape is desolate
with nothing left to nurture
no chance of a rainbow with no sun

i was told
that spring had come
i was told that this would pass
i was told
that spring had come
i was never told
it wouldn’t last

i’m underwater
where nothing grows
can’t even find a space to try
never again
will i be dry
and warmth
is a thing
lost to time

i was told
that spring had come
i was told that this would pass
i was told
that spring had come
i was never told
it wouldn’t last

Cheers to poem-as-verb ("I poemed it") and to your words!

Thanks!

I poemed it.

LOVE it!

Thanks for sharing. I love spring rain. I seriously wish they could bottle the smell.

Thanks for reading.

I love this! I also wish I could bottle the smell, but keep the sunshine.

Thanks.

"i was told

i was told that this would pass"

Can't tell you how perfectly this speaks to me .
