Poem / her children

her children

she is the earth
and I am the sea
I carry ships to her shore
hold the creatures
which she is too busy to care for
replenish her greenery
help feed her children
hold her heavy body above mine
for she does not know
that if she were to sink
beneath my surface
her greenery would die
as would her children
her beloved creatures
everything she loved
gone
so when she calls to me
asking me to let her down
so we may finally embrace
I shake my head
give her a storm to silence her senselessness
but then I quiet her wails
and the wails of her children
slowly rocking her back to tranquility
