Short Intro + Poem

Hello Steemians!

I just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone on this exciting site and give you a poem for your perusal. I am 47 and wrote quite a lot when I was younger. I spent about ten years going in and out of psych wards for a mental illness that I have, but I am doing very well now and thought I'd start writing again. Some will be poetry, some will be experimental writings I have done, and some will be autobiographical. I am looking forward to joining the steemit community!

          Stoplight

Standing on a corner at dusk
Quarter moon above skyscraper
I watch the stoplights
Slowly changing, soft rhythms
That seem to speak of things
Silent, and unspoken, masters
Of the city's breath
They seem to be speaking to me
About what I do not know
And underneath, the orange hand flashing
The silhouette in white of a man
Walking, all so strange
Those lights, constantly changing
And changing, markers of time
Yet it does not matter
If it's day or evening, or if weeks pass
Or even months, they just keep rhythmically changing
As though time weren't real
Keeping us in line
Red yellow green
Standing on street corner
Quarter moon above skyscraper.
