Those Nights...

in poetry •  7 years ago

The blind hours
That we used to create
A world for the two of us —
A world where we could live
In the cradled seclusion
Of our own selves.

Amidst placid winds,
Away from clamorous voices,
Amidst serene grass,
Away from spiteful incongruity.

Those nights that
We dwelled on the fantasy
Of finding our ends
Amidst clustered senses
Of union —
That we failed at miserably.

For other than knowing that our ends met,
We had culminated
In too much of ourselves
To measure ourselves against.

From nights under starry skies,
Against the cold, gloom and grime,
Caressed by the warmth
Of ourselves for us
Into a hypnotic sleep
I haven’t recovered from,
I salvaged the sense of bliss
I am having a hard time
Understanding now.

Alone.

And your disengagement
That I know to be makeshift
Has however left me
With the languor of impatience.

I stand in Time’s cold,
Living with
Memories of how I once lived.
Stay for me,
Stay with me,
Stay beside me,
Spooning in with thoughts
Of my heart,
Right where you belong.

Hold me tight
Tonight,
And I will make you feel
How I’d made you feel
A thousand times before
In nights you don’t remember
A thousand times over.

This was a very interesting write. I liked the way it kind of turned and internalized the oscillating emotions. Though the piece ended on a somewhat sad note, I appreciate the happiness expressed in the early part. Thanks for sharing.
