Moving Forward So History Can Rear Its Ugly Head

let’s go on dumb dates even when we’re broke 

– I just want to spend time with you, is that okay? 

let’s take silly pictures together, 

I want these memories documented and physical, 

something more than just thoughts shifting into dreams at night. 

let’s talk everyday, 

let’s become addicted to the other’s text messages and sentences, 

be my brand new habit. 

let’s fall in love without realizing it’s even happening. 

I’ll be the best surprise of your life and you could be my new beginning. 

so we’ll raise a dog and a cat and maybe a zoo, 

and pretend they’re our children – sure, we can have human ones too. 

and we’ll plan out the wedding and all the years to come, 

smiling and laughing, til it all comes undone. 

then we’ll go our separate ways, delete all the evidence, 

and pretend like we never met in the first place
