Throwback Poem-Off: The Wound

in poetry •  7 years ago

I bow in humble gratitude for my partner-in-poem's patience with me! Things have become challenging as we continue to trade poem for poem, reaching back into the past - reviving old thoughts, emotions, and ideas - and re-presenting them to the world in this mighty Poem-Off!!

And my response below...

The Wound

The wound would be scarred over now
Numbed by the freezing rain
Still deep, and still new
But no longer fresh
Trees forgotten by most
What beauty stood here before?
In this hollowed out scrape
In her body.
The wound should be scarred over
But they work at her still
At it in their thoughts
Not hurting, not scraping
With their not-human machines
Is it men that do this?
Could it be women too?
Or have they all left
For the work day
Too close to the pain to stay
Left their hands and feet
To do the deeds
While their souls hide,
Buried beneath the fear and apathy
And the lonely feeling
And all the lies.

What's a poem-off, you ask? Just a little thang that started a little bit ago. I read a poem that @mitchelljaworski posted, from his old-school writing days. It reminded me of all of my old-school poems, so I challenged him to see if we could go turn-for-turn and repost long lost words from the vaults of time. No rules apply, and new stuff might just make the mix. Check it out, y'all. Follow the links down the rabbit hole...

Thanks for visiting

Love the concept of a poem off. Sometimes those old from the vault works should stay hidden - but not this one, glad you shared it again. That did a lot to change my perspective, even if just for a few moments.

Thanks @naquoya! I appreciate you stopping by!

I was told there would be scotch?

Lol. There will always be Scotch!

Well, I suppose my last one did not make your choice easy, and so the favor has been returned ;-P I'll find something...I think lol

Haha! I didn't make it difficult intentionally, but this one felt the most right to share. I have faith that you'll find one that works. But I won't quiz you on how you see them related, so if you need to flip the script again, it's all good. And if you don't find an old one, I guess you just have to write something new! ;p
