National Poetry Month — April 12th

Today I am reading The Tiger Who Wore White Gloves, or What You Are, You Are by Gwendolyn Brooks.

Brooks was one of the most highly regarded poets of her time. She was the first African American writer to win a Pulitzer Prize and the first African America woman to serve as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress, known today as the Poet Laureate.

Brooks was what poets traditionally were, highly political and socially active, writing about the issues of her day, like civil rights and the racial tension of the 1960s.
