Poem of the day 4: Grandpas

Hello everyone in the Steemit world,

Here is another one of my poems for y’all to enjoy. I wrote this on June 1, 1996, 2 years 5 months and 15 days before my grandfather passed away. He was a very special man to me and I dearly miss him. It has been almost 20 yrs and it still hurts to this day. My grandparents would have been married 66 yrs this year if he was still here, but on the day that he passed on, they had just celebrated their 46th anniversary 2 months prior to his death.

Grandpas

Grandpas are made
to love and to hold,
Grandpas also seem
to get very cold.
There’s that special person
deep down inside them,
That special someone that always
makes you abide him.
He’s very kind and loving,
Always there to comfort you when
there’s sorrow in your face,
He’s here to teach his grandchildren
about a wonderful place.
He tries to tell you right from wrong,
But his grandchildren think he’s just
preaching that same old song.
Grandpa tells us there’s a wonderful
place that we’re all going to,
But he says “Dear grandchildren do not sin,
for that my child is very bad no, no.”
You see, Grandpas are so very special and I
have one so I should know,
And sometimes he might hurt you by something
he has said,
But he’s only trying to help you and get it
through your head.
So keep your chin up and take one day at a time,
It’s that very special something
they have all the time,
And remember Grandpas
are only here for a short time,
And when they’re gone
you will never forget,
how warm and so
Loving a Grandpa can get.
