Pulling Triggers

Hidden in an apartment
Waits a man with loaded cartridges
Sitting behind the door
One shot's fired. She lies on the floor
It's been three days since
He needs more
He prays on the innocent

Next a family of three
He waits for them at the park
Near the giant oak tree
As their vehicle drives
One more shot fired

A crash with another. They'll surely die
Only one of the four contesters survives
Finally he goes to the hospital
Where the lucky one lies
living on life support
It would be easy to pull the plug
Taking aim he cuts the chord
Another victim in this small town
Another victim sent to back to Death's crown

The life of an everlasting reaper
Of the mild and meager
Wondering from place to place
Bringing with him death's grace

Black petals flow behind him
A time lapse he thrives in
Needing only one bullet
To take a future
Cremate it in his red hot skillet

A plague upon himself
To find one that's run out of time
To load another cartridge
And destroy their terrestrial minds

Two more bullets is what he's been told
His job has been tiring he's getting old
The last of this reapers victims
Lies within a mental institution

He visits her often
For her, his heart softens
He counsels with her regularly
She is just as mad as he is
She has been blind from birth
He whispers to her it's time to go

"To where?" the question she poses
"To a place filled with guns and roses
It's your time
Time to free this body of your mind"

He pulls back the hammer
Squeezes the trigger
Looks away
As the night turns to day

"Finally my sentence is over" he mutters
As his dark mystic hoodie shudders
He draws in his last scene
A place so undignified yet somehow serene

"Finally I get to rest"
As his dark soul is ripped from his chest
His final act has come
He pointed the barrel, making sure there's one left in the drum

Pulls the trigger one last time
A gruesome sight in his mind
The fireball from the barrel
The bullet with a sentence engraved
"The end is here at last, Rest well within your grave"
