Starting again

I sheepishly looked at you
Not sure what I should do
Should I say hi
Should I even try

The whole evening, I tried to speak
But nothing came out not even a single beep
As dinner finished ground rules were laid down
The last word was said, and the time was appointed to leave town
As I headed to the washing up station you caught me by surprise
All I could do was gaze into your eyes

You asked me a simple question
My mind had a hard time comprehendin’
Yes, was the answer I gave
Everything went by in a daze

Washing up together we were able to reconnect
Catching up wasn’t that hard except…
I was still awkward around you
It’d been a year since I had last seen your face
It had been a year since I was able to enjoy your grace

The time to leave in the morning came sooner than expected
As the entire group rush to get ready
All I could think about was keeping my heart beat steady
An extra two hours together. What could’ve been better
Six days still remained of this journey
A few hours a day I was able to spend with you
Getting to know every creak and crack
Hiking behind you watching your back

I’m glad for the time we could spend together
Even when there was only crappy weather
I’m glad that I could see you again
I’m glad I could be a friend
I’m glad that new year’s wasn’t the end 😉
