Autumn's Sutra (original poetry)

Autumn's Sutra

autumn's breath
lingers on neck
like a sutra
lost to sleep

trees malting
the vulnerability of a forest
no other choice
but
to
shed

i pass reaching branches
leaf after leaf
to see beauty in your death
as i in theirs

late afternoon
a beetle makes home
in the bosom
of an oak tree's rot
