Benches - Original Poetry

Benches

She was peculiar,
She ate alone and never spoke.
She sat with pen and paper,
Face shadowed by windblown hair.
His path each day would bring him close.
She was familiar,
with faded cap and skin so fair.
What did her heart each day compose?
He tried to speak, but didn't dare.
Summer soon became the fall,
One morn he came, the park now bare.
His eyes sought her with rising fear,
He walked its breadth 'til night crept near.
The full moon rose and still he sought,
The empty bench a place he'd mourn
Where luminescence once was born.

Ouch... that sting of missed opportunity, having got used to seeing her there, and kind of coming to depend on it... and then one day she's not. Beautifully written, I really like this. Following :)

oh cool, I didn't see the challenge part until just now... is this ongoing? I'd like to try this one week.

Yes, it's ongoing! Thank you for reading and the compliment!

Looking forward to reading more of your work @wandrnrose7! Check out (and contribute to, if you wish) the collaborative poem I started, just for fun and to build community in the poetry section of Steemit: https://steemit.com/poetry/@bennettitalia/steemit-collaborative-poetry-experiment

This is just a fun experiment, and it's already getting pretty silly, but I would be honored if you felt inspired to contribute a couple of lines :)

Skin so fair. Love poetry.

Thank you! I'm so happy you like it. It needs more polishing, but a poem a day is daunting! Followed!

Lovely poetry. Will share one of mine in the contest too.

Try the 7-Day challenge... It's definitely a challenge! Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I have followed you.

This is a very pleasant read, I liked the last sentence the most, and how it ties into his curiosity. I definitely am about to join this challenge :)

Thanks for your comment on my post, I'm curious to read more of your poetry. @lonestarpoet
