This is my entry for Steemit Poetry Contest #10 by @terrycraft! It's an original poem called "To Fit In", and it's about how being yourself can help you grow as a person! (Picture source: pixabay.com)
To cover the truth with lies, and to hide what’s real inside.
You can’t let them know, and you can’t let it show,
So just bury it down and try to muffle that sound.
I was always told that I was a little too bold
And maybe a little odd, that I had to be just like every other sod.
To run with the crowd, and not to fly on my own cloud,
Because if I did, I would be labeled "the weird kid"
But now I know that being yourself will only help you grow
And that sometimes standing out can help you with any doubt.
So don’t sacrifice yourself and don’t erode away your health
Because in the end you shouldn’t have to hide, and you shouldn’t have to fight in order to fit in
I love this! I totally relate to it, I spent spent so long trying to fit in. As I'm getting older I'm getting more of the "if you don't like me that's your problem" mindset
