The Entries for the Mermaidvampire's Poetry Reading Contest

in poetryreading •  7 years ago  (edited)

Great day, Steemheads!

I'm back from a 2 day hiatus. I have been under the weather lately but still fab and rad, nonetheless.( JK) Hahaha! Thank you so much to all the people who supported my contest, specially those who joined. I have here the summary of all the contestants and their poetry reading pieces. Please check them all out and leave constructive and positive feedback. Surely they'd appreciate it.

So, why did I make this contest? I was thinking it is the first of its kind in Steemit and I really love poetry. I have planned for months now to launch this but I did not have enough money for the prize so I thought hard on what prize scheme to use. I combined delegations, SBI shares and payout split. I'm happy that it worked and everything is fair enough for everyone to get that much chunk for their efforts.

Another reason why I made this contest, because I want people to be confident in speaking English. I know most of us here are not native English speakers but we do know the language and even if we don't know it, we can learn it. I want us to be able to talk in Discord Radio Shows and be heard, and that can only happen if we try and learn the universal language which is English. This is like a practical thing to do for you to love speaking the language. There will be more of these contests because I want us to embrace poetry reading as an art and exploring the English language. To use it to be able to express yourself more in this platform. I also want to expose the idea to use other Steemit condensers like DLive, DSound and DTube. I know they are not smooth at the moments but as we demand for it, it will be made better by the devs. This is all win-win stuff here.

There are 13 people who joined, I was expecting more but 13 is quite a good number already. And that means more prizes for everyone! The total payout was 26.27 SBD.

The prize scheme for this contest is clearly stated in this screen capture below:

poetry.prize.PNG

Like what I told you before, NO ONE LOSES in my contests.

75% of that is the actual prize pool of the contest which is equal to: 19.7025 SBDs.
25% goes to the grand winner ---4.925625
15% goes to the 2nd winner ---2.955375
10% goes to the 3rd winner ---1.97025
50% of 19.7025 SBD goes to the consolation prize of 10 contestants and that is: 9.85125/ 10 = 0.985125

Isn't that great?! Everyone got something, just for joining. Thank you so much for the support in boosting the payout, specially to @surpassinggoogle who upvoted and resteemed so it reached more audience.

Summary of Entries to the MMV's Poetry Reading Contest:

Cadawg's Entry
Condenser: DLive
Poem Title/s: On Children by Kahlil Gibran and Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Lines by Pablo Neruda

He read both the poems I suggested and was the first one to submit. I appreciate his effort in putting all this together because I know this teen is so busy with life and being awesome. I told him about my contest because I was afraid no one would send entries because poetry reading isn't everyone's cup of tea. Also, some don't have English as their native language and they find it awkward to speak it. Cadawg is English, so I thought he would not mind reading poems and so he was my first contestant. Thanks so much, @cadawg. You are my clover leaf, a lucky charm. Hahaha!

Zephalexia's Entry
Condenser: Dtube
Poem Title/s: Note to Self an original composition of @zepahalexia

This is a wow! I am so glad you joined, @zephalexia. I have seen your name and read your blogs many times but now I see your face in a video reading your own poem and that's so much impressive. You have a pretty face, btw. This is too lovely, this inspires me to do more contests because I see a lot of gems in the contestants and you are one of them! Kudos!

Mami @olivia08, I want to tell you how proud I am of you, that you are someone I look up to as a mom figure here. I love how you build yourself and you try to learn new things. It's so much beauty when you see a person help oneself and make it. Mami, you are winning at life. Enjoy learning and always have fun in the new things or challenges you conquer.

Emdesan's Entry

Poem Title/s: Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Lines by Pablo Neruda

@emdesan, I appreciate this. I love how you delivered it, it sounded like how it's supposed to. This one is a sad poem, I hope I did not envoke your sad feelings of your past relationships. Hahaha! Thanks for joining.

@tonie, thanks so much for the support. You have always been in my contests and I am glad you tried this one, too. The video is artistically made with the background music and all. You never fail to amaze me with your works because you put heart and effort to it. Thank you so much for joining.

Cinderz' Entry

This reminds me so much of my wonderful High School English classes. Thanks for joining, @cinderz. I know you are busy but you made time to join the contest, I really appreciate the time and effort for this. There'll be more contests from me, always be there and be the usual game girl that you are!

Kenechukwu2's Entry
Condenser: Dtube
Poem Title/s: Pretty Ugly by Abdullah Shoaib

Awww, @kenechukwu2, I did not know this poem until I heard it from you. I was sad on the first part of it, hmmm... I don't think there is ugly when we talk of people because we are God's masterpiece. And I have known people, there will always be something beautiful about us no matter who we are. Thanks for joining, and yes, don't forget about your beauty, nourish it and let it shine!

Poem Title/s: Still I Rise by Maya Angelou

@jennybeans you have touched my heart with this. I love Maya Angelou and this poem. When I saw your post, I read the poem twice with feelings and all. Hahaha! I have always been fascinated with poems of struggles such as this. I have been digging into History of societies and humans in general. The struggle of Africans is one thing I am so much into, I remember at a young age watching La Amistad almost every weekend because my late brother was this humanitarian being that wants me to see all these movies about people and societies. I feel so much when it comes to this talks. Thank you for joining and thank you for reminding me of Maya.

I love Edgar Allan Poe. In fact, I was considering including one of his poems as a sample here but I thought most of them were long poems. Good job in using this one and you recited it nicely. Thanks for joining the contest and thanks for all the support.

Anytime, mami! Thanks!

This is truly amazing, your work in this platform is totally energetic, when I first saw your contest I was very busy but since I'm a poet, I never run away from responsibility really, I'm glad I couldn't come up with my own poem
I'm just starting to meet you, because I saw @Surpassingoogle, mind you, he's an amazing man with many amazing achievements as well, and whatever he shares is really worth it.

Nevertheless you're a really energetic steemian, it's a honour to participate here, I'm a poet, and anything poetry contest don't forget to contact me, I'm always at your service, thank you.

Thank you, the pleasure's mine. Good to know someone who loves poetry here, too!

It was really fun @mermaidvampire. I began to learn more on the editing stuff. When I submitted your entry a spark of idea came up to me to . To do spoken word poetry with some backgrounds etc.

The one that I did sent out was the first ever DLIVE video that I did and I am really happpy that I was able to join.

Awesome. That is exactly what I want. If you push with it let me know, I can collab or sponsor if I have the money. I love Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye of Button poetry. I also love Pinoy Fliptop. So, yah know, it's my thing. Kahit balagtasan pa yan keriboomboom pow yan. HAHAHAHA! Go for it.

That would be awesome! More poetry reading and even other stuff. Collab project why not coconut I might be working with @jennybeans too in the future and the rest of the folks on @tagalogtrail to work on something like that a mini drama something.

We just need to have that person @toto-ph be available and for sure he will be creating some crazy challenges again.

XOXOXOXO

It's an honor to be able to join your contest @mermaidvampire :) Actually, I'm hesitant at first because I'm not really good in English and my diction is a bit hard hehehe but I'm glad I made it. 😊

I love Maya's works especially that one. It's so short but very profound and well written. I love history too but I'm more into the history of the society rather than the human itself😅. And since you mention La Amistad, I think I'm going to check that one out. 😂

Thank you. Your English is fine and reading was smooth, so you're cool. Yep, check it out, great movie.

Thank you for the contest! Keep inspiring us and I would love to join your future contest too!
