Short Deck Hold'em Poker

in poker •  6 years ago

Short Deck Poker (also known as Six-plus hold 'em) is a version of Texas hold 'em, where the 2 through 5 cards are removed from the deck. Like Texas Hold'em, each player is dealt two cards face down and looks to make the best possible 5 card combination from their two hold cards and the five cards dealt to the community board which their opponents also play off of.

Since 16 cards are removed, the total number of cards in the deck are 36. Aces are high, but may make both low and high end of straights. So the lowest straight possible would be 9-8-7-6-A. This also changes the probability of hands and alters hand rankings due to less cards being in the deck.

Hand Ranking In Short Deck Hold'em

  1. Royal Flush
  2. Straight Flush
  3. Four of a Kind
  4. Flush
  5. Full House
  6. Three of a Kind
  7. Straight
  8. Two Pair
  9. One Pair
  10. High Card

Now I know I'm getting old because I'm not aware of this variant but very interesting. Flush is harder to make than full-house and lowest straight is A6789. Gonna take a lil adjustment for me and all my cousins who love to limp in with anything suited 🤣

Tonio you will love this game, I can really see why it took off in Asia and is starting to become popular in the USA.

Definitely Gravy, I'm on the table right now if you want to jump in.
