When you think about poker, you may not necessarily think about food. However, countless number of home poker games involve food. I remember the times of playing a weekly 1/2 NL Holdem cash game once a week, and everyone who came would always be interested in food. Sometimes we would order out, sometimes I would bring some homemade goodies for the group, and sometimes other players would bring munchies.

Even at casinos, poker rooms usually have their own exclusive menu. You've seen it, people place the order, then the waiter/waitress brings out a table, and the person is eating a club sandwich, or Chinese fried rice, while you are waiting for AA. You know you be looking at what they are eating...and who can blame you, poker is a game of hours, and in those hours, there isn't always time to eat.

Humans love to gamble. And humans love to eat. So why not combine the two?!

As a Lucksacks AFT segment, we will be sharing with you some simple recipes that you can whip up before your poker game. Whether you're playing at home, online, or maybe even anal enough to take your food to the casino (D.N. does it all the time), these dishes will surely bring you some happiness, even if your poker session doesn't...

Today's Starting Hand

AA Oh yes, the pocket rockets, American Airlines, Alan Alda, whatever you want to call them, they are the pinnacle of the starting poker hand.

Pocket aces is the supreme starting hand in Texas Holdem. The hand that many sit and fold shit hands for hours just to catch a glimpse of. The beast mode that will take your bank roll. Your favorite hand, and mine. Face it, everybody's.

Today's Dish

Candied Bacon. You read that right, bacon that has been candied. Candied bacon, folks. Sugary, salty, crispy, porky bacon. I've taken America's favorite food past time, and crossed it with America's second food past time: bacon 1 sugar 2 - America's love relationship to bacon and sugar is unconditional, and this is my ode to it...

Wait, how is Candied Bacon and 'pocket rockets' the same thing?? Let me tell you...

• Pocket rockets are the best thing in the world. So is bacon.
• Pocket rockets makes you feel all warm and gooey inside. So does bacon.
• Pocket rockets can bring your greatest advisory to his knees. And you know what, so can bacon.

Recipe

• Your favorite smoked bacon
• Brown sugar
• Black pepper
• Cinnamon
• Parchment paper

Preheat oven to 250 deg. F Place parchment paper in oven safe pan. Place strips of bacon on parchment. Sprinkle liberal amounts of brown sugar, and black pepper on the bacon. Finish it off with dashes of cinnamon. Cook for 50-60 mins, until dark brown and crispy. Monitor it every 15 mins or so to make sure the sugar does not burn. Transfer to paper towel and let cool. Enjoy.
