Poker & Food

When you think about poker, you may not necessarily think about food. However, countless number of home poker games involve food. I remember the times of playing a weekly 1/2 NL Holdem cash game once a week, and everyone who came would always be interested in food. Sometimes we would order out, sometimes I would bring some homemade goodies for the group, and sometimes other players would bring munchies.

Even at casinos, poker rooms usually have their own exclusive menu. You've seen it, people place the order, then the waiter/waitress brings out a table, and the person is eating a club sandwich, or Chinese fried rice, while you are waiting for AA. You know you be looking at what they are eating...and who can blame you, poker is a game of hours, and in those hours, there isn't always time to eat.

Humans love to gamble. And humans love to eat. So why not combine the two?!

Would You Eat Your Hand?

As a Lucksacks AFT segment, we will be sharing with you some simple recipes that you can whip up before your poker game. Whether you're playing at home, online, or maybe even anal enough to take your food to the casino (D.N. does it all the time), these dishes will surely bring you some happiness, even if your poker session doesn't...

Today's Starting Hand

88 Pocket eights, Time Travel, & Fat Ladies. Fat Ladies? Apparently they look like two fat ladies standing side by side. Okay, if you say so.

Pocket eights is a nice little hand. Great for hitting straights and sets, and easy to toss away if the board blanks. I personally remember winning some nice hands with pocket eights. So, while it is certainly not considered a premium hand, it's still a decent, middle pocket pair. Play it with full gusto, but just be cautious.

Today's Dish

Italian Sausage & Peppers Sub - oily, spicy, saucy, and yummy as fuck. Regular hotdogs are for Quakers. A real sub has cheese, meat, peppers, onions, spice, and a whole lotta love. Not lips and assholes on a bun, with ketchup. This recipe is quite easy, but it does take some time. Things that are fucking incredible, usually do...

Wait, how is an Italian Sausage & Peppers Sub and 'Fat Ladies' the same thing?? Let me tell you...

  • Well when I thought of fat ladies, I thought of the Italian opera, you know the age old saying - "it's not over till the fat lady sings." - well, two Italian fat ladies breaks down to Italian + fat = Italian Sausage & Peppers sub. {Hey it's difficult to come up with food/poker analogies. Let's see if you can do better.}

Ingredients

  • Sub bread
  • Red onions
  • Yellow or red bell peppers
  • Italian sausage
  • Provolone Cheese

Goddamit to hell, fuck!! It's "Utah get me TWO!!." Not give me...gosh, IDIOT!!

Fuckin A that is a good looking hoagie. All you need are some hot peppers and that would be perfect. Maybe some pickled garlic too.

You are right about hot dogs. Why anyone would rather eat a hot dog instead of a fine piece of sausage I'll never know.

Thank you, sir. And hell yeah, I had some sweet and spicy pickled peppers along side. Should have caugth it in the photo. The garlic might be an interesting way to go.

Lol, right. Sausage for the victory. <--- that doesn't sound right.
