The Battle Is Over
Ladies & Gentleman, the first ever Steemit Pro League tournament was a success. 24 players took to the tables and one victor emerged. The lone man standing was @writingamigo Congratulations, buddy. Way to take down your opponents in unrelenting fashion.
Writingamigo overcame more than a 2 to 1 chip lead to take down first place. Here is a shot of the final hand
War Stories
We pick up with some early round action from the final table. Blinds are 350/700 Writingamigo from UTG raises to 1400, @zizelevak calls from the BB. The flop comes Kh2s9d, Writingamigo bets 1400, Zizelevak calls. The turn is Ac, both players check. The river is another A, Zizelevak leads 2076, Writingamigo calls. Zize turns over A9, takes down 10442 chips, and emerges as chip leader.
What did you have there @writingamigo? If you care to share :D
The Bubble Boy is Born
Just a little under three hours after start time, a bubble boy would emerge. Blinds are 350/700, Zizelevak raises from UTG 1400 chips, @elalec raises all in for 9825 chips from the SB. Zize makes the call. Elalec turns over A4, Zize turns over 77. Flop comes 5d5c4d9sQh
Elalec, we feel for you bro. Better luck next time.
Congratulations
@Writingamigo took down a final four of @elalec, @lebekons, @zizelevak

How Is This Legal?
We're using play money on PokerStars. You do not have to buyin with real money on PokerStars to play. There is a catch however. PokerStars really wants you to buy their play money chips, so they barely give you enough to get into a tournament by forcing the tournament fees to be 17,000+ minimum.
What this means is you need to go to the CASHIER and COLLECT some play chips every 4 hours (12500 chips) to play for free OR you can buy their play chips in the same area for a few bucks for a million or so play chips to enter freeroll tourneys.
Players low on play chips can also ask a friend with some to spare to play them HU in a cash game and dump some to them.
You will win the play money in the tournament on PokerStars and win the designated SBD prize pool amount stated prior to the tournament, which will be paid out here on Steemit by this @tuck-fheman account.
Awesome, congratz to the winner?
When is the next one?

It was a pleasure, @tuck-fheman! The luck was on my side this time!
P.S. I had KQs on that hand. I was thinking about firing some fireworks but did not feel like finishing at the bubble.
See you at the tables next time! Hopefully, next time I won't have to play till 7 am... Great job, buddy! Amazing initiative!

I will think about joining this. I love hold em. How do you like betcoin.ag ? You can use bitcoin,ltc,eth on that site. Is there a reason that you prefer pokerstars?
A Poker APP that was powered by STEEM would be great. ... A place we could gamble with SBD/STEEM.

PokerStars has the Home Game setup with a Leaderboard, that was about the only reason I chose it.
Yeah I agree on the STEEM based Poker app. I've contacted the Bluff Ave. Dev about open sourcing his project or selling it, but he has yet to reply.

I am not sure what the PeerPlay poker will turn out like...but I would be willing to fund a steem based poker application if that made sense.
You should download seals with clubs poker, I am active there more than any other site. Would be good to pick up some games with Steemians there as well. SwC is anonymous and been around for ages.
I have just joined the Steemit Poker League discord. Will you be creating a Steemit account for this ? This community will have my full support.

Wow thanks!
The idea of creating a separate account for this has crossed my mind, but I've decided to wait and see if we can support a full season (and now with 2 leagues) with post payouts before jumping full steem into it.
It's a lot to do, more than I anticipated going in. We were hosting daily freerolls most of the day long in between the weekly League tourney, but that just became too much to deal with and ended up draining the funds, once anticipated post rewards started declining, and I was fronting the money so I had to let the post rewards catch up to expenditures to see where we're at for the coming week.
We're now caught up funds wise, and after the 7/1 tourney we'll have at least an extra $113 SBD sitting around to either save for the next League tourney or start doing some more daily freerolls.
Once I get an idea of how much posts payouts will avg I can better manage the daily freeroll amounts. So far posts payouts have swung from $800 down to $65 I believe, so it's been hard to gauge. They do however appear to be leveling off near $150-$200 now which, if it continues, will allow us to set a regular schedule for daily games and offer some worthwhile prize pools on those games vs the current 1 SBD SNG daily.
Note to anyone reading this :
I do understand that there are Steemians who think "poker is gambling" and they don't want to see the reward pool go towards "gambling". I disagree with that sentiment, and understand poker to be a game of skill and do not consider a Freeroll, where no one has money at risk, to be gambling.
This poker league, as I see it, is no different than any other legitimate giveaway contest run here on Steemit. No one is risking anything other than their time to compete for a portion of the prize pool.

@spl
I went ahead and set a new account up. It's probably best that we go ahead and separate all the post and funds into another account. Later today once I get it all setup I'll make a post about it.

Ohh nice I get it now. I've been wanting to do this since I joined steemit but have always been confused by how to get in and if pokerstars would want a credit card, etc. I will download it and start getting free chips then.. and there only 10 spots left, snap
