Poker Playing Styles

This blog presents a system that allows you to place your opponents in different categories of game styles based on the observed behavior. Once you've done that, it will be easy to adapt your style of play to their style.

Tight-passive: The Rock

This player plays only solid hands starting from a good position, however, betting and rising rarely without having very good cards - allowing them an easy exit to their opponents with a sense of observation. Players with a tight-passive style are generally not winners, although their losses will be small.

Tight-aggressive: The TAG

Only plays solid starting hands in a positive and aggressive way. An experienced player in the Strong-Aggressive style is difficult to defeat. This is one of the most profitable styles to play poker.

Loose-passive: The Calling Station

Playing too many hands and playing them by matching bets instead of raising is a way to ask your opponents to take your money in the poker game. This style is generally used by novice players, being an expensive way to find out that this style is really bad.

Loose-aggressive: The LAG

This player plays many early hands and plays them very aggressively - especially as the bets are small. While not all the hands played are profitable, this type of player will often be paid in big hands - because they often raise, but their Aces are hidden very well.
