Well, shivering chickadees!

It's a little bit cold here. Not Wisconsin/Michigan cold - they're getting temps that normally stay in Northern Canada - but it's nippy here in the warmer bands of the "polar vortex". img_5437e1487080198244.jpg
The scary low temps farther south than have any business getting that cold will be hard on the wild birds too (so if you're not too busy saving yourselves, remember to fill the feeder!).

Chickadees survive nights by huddling on a branch together and shivering through the night, which takes a tremendous amount of energy. And it makes a good pirate swear. Yarrr! Odd that they congregate at night because they don't seem that friendly with each other during the day - all of them act like loners. They must be so hungry in the morning. They seem jaunty in their black caps but they're just highly motivated.

Hope everyone affected by the big freeze is safe and resourceful and connected. Gold stars to all the people who are right now working in the cold to restore power, save others, and save the homeless:(

Poor Chikadees, that feeling when you shiver is what I hate the most. Anyway, keep the heat!

I feel completely left out - it seems that I'm located about two hours south of the polar vortex. We got a token day of snow and cold but now it's spring again! Having a hard time relating to the weather farther north. I've traveled to cold places in the summer before, but never escaped proper winter. I'll put on a jacket for you though! ;)
