This is a pretty stunning video of a sheriff deputy being attacked by a man he just pulled over and having to shoot the man very quickly:
Cops face an unremitting reservoir of danger when they pull people over. And in this case the cop had to act fast, and thankfully he did.
I will point out that there’s a debate among gun owners about keeping one in the chamber and the use of safeties when they conceal-carry. Personally I think keeping one in the chamber is the only way to go, but I do like a good thumb safety.
But I have to admit that the cop had so little time to react in this instance that even a thumb safety might have prevented him from stopping the guy. Of course the moron was only using the butt of his gun. But what if he had something sharp like a spear or machete that would be life threatening? The cop only has split seconds to act and having a safety engaged, even a thumb safety, could have prevented him from shooting the guy in time.
Or maybe not. After all that is what training is for, so I’d be interested to know what you guys think about this…
In any event, we thanks cops everywhere for putting themselves in harm’s way to protect the rest of us. May God bless you all.
