I'll start this out by saying that I am not a big fan of police and I am even less of a fan about why this arrest happened in the first place. The arrest was taking place because two people were smoking a joint and I am really just upset about the fact that marijuana is illegal to use anyway. It is absolutely absurd that you can stand somewhere and down an entire of bottle of Jack Daniels and the police would probably applaud you for being able to accomplish that but if you smoke a little bit of a plant to get high, you are going to jail.
For the most part I think the laws in North Carolina are some of the better ones in the country but this antiquated law is one that needs to go away.

So now we have a case in Charlotte where an arrest was made and the public is outraged about the fact that an officer struck a woman in the fracas that ensued afterwards. The reason why this situation is so silly is that the news and the community that it happened in, is trying to make it a racial issue because the woman was black. They go so far as to capitalize "Black" when they are referring to her race. The couple, who I don't believe should have been arrested in the first place for smoking a joint, did something really stupid after they were informed they were under arrest: They decided to assault the police officers.
Like I said before I am not a fan of police and we don't really need them where I live in this state because we have respect and order that is largely enforced by castle doctrine and a very high percentage of gun ownership. I rarely even see the police here. However, if I was ever being arrested for something I would comply and then get my revenge via a lawyer. I can't imagine the mind of a person that thinks that assaulting a police officer would ever end well of them.

Christina Pierre contends that she never assaulted the police officers but the footage that has gone viral tells a very different story. A lot of the required body cam footage has not yet been released to the public and I guess we will have to wait a little while before we get the full story. Some eye-witnesses are saying that she attacked the officer first and others are saying that she did not.
I have a real problem with some news outlets like the usual suspect CNN, making this a race issue though. If you are being arrested, comply! Even if you don't feel like you did anything wrong and maybe you didn't, resisting arrest and fighting with police is always going to end bad for you. Race really shouldn't be a factor in this at all.
I can already see what is going to happen with this though. There is going to be some sort of payout to the people that were struck by police and this is a bad precedent to set. Doing this only encourages other people to do the same thing in the hopes that they are going to get a big payday even if they were in fact fighting with police.
Being a police officer right now in the United States must be a really tough job because so many police are coming under fire for doing their job. As a police officer you are going to have to use violence every now and then and this is especially true if the people are fighting you.
There are many things that went wrong here. For starters there shouldn't have been an arrest at all over smoking a little bit of a harmless substance. Then, the attitude of people thinking it is ok to fight the police is something that can only end badly, and lastly, the fact that this is being turned into a race issue is something that the USA needs to stop doing. This likely wouldn't be in the news at all if the couple had been white.
