I have written about dogs before, in relation to the number of dog attacks and breed statistics for those attacks. I have written about police before, often highlighting the endemic corruption and illegal violence endemic in modern police forces. Today I want to share more thoughts on dogs and police. Shockingly enough, cops are even quicker to fire on dogs than people. It is so pervasive it has become a running joke in many circles- call the cops and expect your dog to be killed. It's hard to find good stats, but there are smatterings here and there. In 2017 Detroit police killed 54 dogs with just two officers having killed more than 100 while on the force. Chicago police have killed 700 dogs in the past decade. Some police departments are better, some or worse.
Why should you care? Because it costs you a lot of money. Police miscoundunct becomes the fiscal responsibility of the taxpayer. A single incident can cost you $100,000 or $225,000.
Or a million dollars.
Or 1.25 million dollars.
This is costing each of us a lot of money to cover bad police.
Heck, just last week in my city a trigger happy cop was so eager to shoot a dog he instead shot a police trainee. That's pretty ridiculous. This anti-dog culture is not just taking away treasured family pets, it is harming people. Sometimes even killing people. It is well past time to end this, which we can do if we make this an issue in our own communities. Pay attention and call out police misconduct. If we don't, bad cops will continue and we will have to cover the bill for their illegal acts.
