Do Police Target People of Color in MN
Here is my personal experience. As a person of color, I have lived in MN for about 3 decades and have been able to gain employment, get bank loans, etc.
Most days I drive above the speed limit as I keep up with traffic. I also have a bad habit of not signaling every time I do a lane change. In spite of this, I have never been pulled over by the police and I do live in St. Paul, MN and I see the police on a daily basis.
Over the approximate 3 decades, I have probably driven over 300,000 miles. I primarily drive between St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Personally, I do not like the winters in MN, but I stay because of the employment and cultural opportunities. Finally, we also have fine schools and teachers. My kids all attended St. Paul public schools.
Everything 'belongs' in Context.
The question you raise and Example you give, are that of a 'good negro' - who as long as he falls in line and never does anything out of the ordinary, life will (or should) go just fine. Yet, thinking that just because it has never happened to you, it 'won't ever happen in the future' --- is Blind ignorance. Even the good negro, eventually finds out he is indeed, a negro.
But I digress. The real issue is that whites are able to do things that blacks are not. Police will see a white person speeding and let them pass; but will see a black person speeding and stop them. (not you of course; you're good; you follow all the rules. good for you. not the point though) --- a white person who Is stopped can Possess Weed; and NOT go to Jail or face punishment; A black person who is stopped, better not have weed or they are going to Jail; and this again enters another context.
"If" a white person does get sent to jail they usually can afford a lawyer, bail bondsman, they can afford the process; where blacks 'usually' cannot; and end up having to serve jail time which ruins their social life usually; because again we are talking about life; and life comes with Variables; Including the reality that you can be 'good' all your life and still one day encounter racial mistreatment from the Police.
A white person can still call the police on you and the police will take that white persons Word over yours; 'whether you believe it or not' .... unfortunately.
