in political •  6 years ago

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all parties to ensure an intensifying and anti-depressant environment in upcoming parliamentary elections. In addition, he also urged to ensure that elections are so peaceful, trustworthy and participatory. This is called in a statement by the United Nations Secretary-General in New York on Thursday. On behalf of the UN Secretary General, his spokesman, Stephen Dujerk, gave the statement.

It is said in the statement that the Secretary General of the United Nations urged all parties to ensure the upcoming, non-violence, anti-violence and anti-depressant environment before the upcoming parliamentary elections of December 30, in which the election is peaceful, trustworthy and participatory. All Bangladeshi citizens, including minorities and women, feel safe and feel confident in the use of franchise. In the electoral process, civil society and observers get full support to perform their duties.

The United Nations Secretary-General reaffirmed the commitment of continuing to support United Nations to peaceful and democratic Bangladesh.

Earlier, on 21 December, the United Nations Secretary-General's spokesman Stephen Dujerick was questioned about Bangladesh's election in a regular briefing. The question was, "Opposition candidates and their supporters are being victimized by the ruling party. Do you still believe that the forthcoming election of Bangladesh will be free, fair and acceptable, where the opposition candidates are being disqualified from the election due to the rule of law?
