There's no reason for anybody to refer to his or herself as a "progressive."
You've already taken "liberal" away from real liberals. You've already got "Left." You've already got specific microcosms like "socialist" and "Democratic socialist" and so-on.
Calling yourself a "progressive" is like calling yourself the GOAT. Basically, you're being a dick.
You're not labeling yourself with an ethically debatable set of values that actually mean something. Calling yourself "progressive" is to try to assert that your views are necessarily leading to progress, which they often aren't, and you're using that as an easy out to put down critics as being opposed to progress.
It's a cop out and I won't use the word in that context without air quotes and with the intention of mocking you.
