I remember being in a place and saw the tide of event quickly turn. I was having lunch in a restaurant that also was a bar and a man who happens to be a politician and popular to the masses walked in with a few friends. 'Clear road for Baba' 'clear road for Baba' no vacancy 2019, House of Assembly na your own.... This and many other praises they rained on him as he responded and walked into the inner space of the bar.
In less than 3minutes, 3crates of beer and 1 of malt was brought and the population began to grow as many people joined knowing the man was around. Some people even made calls to invite others.
I must confess that i didnt leave my seat on time even after the meal. I waited to see the end of it. Though, they stayed a long while inside the praises and 'shouts' of the people was always watered by the beers that kept coming. Fast forward. As they walked out of the bar, the man also gave some money to them. He gave a guy some money for the guys and a girl for the females. They just kept praising him and hailing him until they drove off. The people came back into the bar and exchanged their remaining drinks for money, meat and food - and of course, the bar man 'bought-back' the drinks for a more cheaper price. Getting to that point, i walked out in pity seen how matured guys were sharing a gift to forget their rights.
I wondered if they knew that they deserve more than just drinks and foods and that the accountability of their representative shouldnt be compromised on the premise of drinks and meats. I asked how possible it will be for these people to realize that every beer gift of N10,000 they receive for example, they have deprived themselves of over N10,000,000 worth of development if they forfeited the beers and demanded accountability from their representatives.
