They are running the russiagate story so that they don't have to change the control of the party. One russia gate story dies down, they know clearly it's an end for majority of them.

Well they will keep it alive as long as they can. In 2018 if the party elites aren't voted out then there is zero chance they ever give up power. Sadly, even after all this historic losing they still haven't given a inch, not one reason to think they will now or in the future.
