What I Learned from Game Economies part 1: Runescape Bots are boring

in politics •  6 years ago  (edited)

Runescape is well known for its bot problem. These bots spend all day doing boring things like chopping wood and making potions so us players can spend all our time doing things like fighting bosses. Turns out that got so boring that eventually they made a new gamemode: ironman. In that mode you can't trade with other players. A lot of people love it, partially because it forces you to do things without bots. I've heard rumours where ironman can be applied to a group of players instead of just one, to allow them to interact without bots.

Long story short, the problem here is that you shouldn't alienate people from their labor. In a game people can leave and that clearly shows the effects and forces people to cap them before they get too bad. What do you think happens at jobs where they have to be there to survive?
