If you're a white person, emotional repression is the name of the game; this system is designed to keep you occupied with the happening and not the why or the how. As the creators, maintainers, and beneficiaries of the system – the useful cogs keeping the hierarchy in place– it is of no surprise that the culture they develop would be one focused on suppressing that which causes you to think of the human rather than the commodity: your own emotions.
What kind of damage does a culture of emotional repression do to you; a lifetime of ignoring trauma from a communication style focussed on assuming ulterior motives behind everything done? Its a trick question to consider: the real material damage isn't felt by those spearheading the system and culture. Just by existing, white culture hurts those unable to interact in it.
An inability to communicate with those whom have no conscious awareness of whiteness, as a communication style and cultural influence, means they will inevitably be the ones feeling the repercussions. With no awareness of the "assumed" intent, they can not communicate to clarify their actions; whiteness is the norm and the "white culture" is always used as the default lens to analyze the "why" which inevitably strains relations and ostracizes those who can't play the "white" way.
