Being a political junkie in my forties in 2024 is weird.

Like... I have to tell people that among the major parties, it used to be Democrats who were antiwar, supportive of free speech, supportive of civil liberties in general, distrustful of alphabet agencies like the CIA and FBI, opposed to government spying and domestic propaganda, against big tech and big pharma on top of the military industrial complex, representatives of the working class rather than the elites, believing the Cheneys were the secular version of the hordes of hell, etc.

"OK, Boomer" is the response I hear now, but it really doesn't feel like that paradigm was that long ago. Like... I might be old, but it seems like the reversal was rapid and recent and it feels like everyone seems to be memory holing the fact that it really was that way rather than the opposite not too terribly long ago.
