Governor of North Carolina wants to stop 4th of July celebrations: We wont listen

in politics •  4 years ago

So the cities and their leadership have a lot of a political pressure to follow the orders of the governor as he once again reverts to selective enforcement of the stay at home Covid protocols. It is really upsetting to those of us that quite enjoy this festive holiday to see such blatant hypocrisy on the part of our leaders.

The governor appeared to have very little problem with mass gatherings when BLM was protesting in the streets but the moment that something that involves an event that doesn't have some sort of political brownie points associated with it in a Democrat fashion, the rules change. This selective enforcement of so called Covid protocols is enraging and despite the fact that the governor has stated that gatherings of more than 10 people indoors or 25 outdoors is illegal, the members of many communities throughout the state have zero intention of complying with this.

Like most cities in the USA, the 4th of July is a time when the community all gets to go and watch some impressive fireworks displays that are put on by the communities and they are normally pretty impressive, even for medium sized cities like nearby Greenville (where I live) which only has around 100,000 inhabitants.

While most of the cities did in-fact follow the governor's lead and cancelled the parades and fireworks displays, most of the population has no intention of obeying the orders to stay out of large groups.

We were told months ago that we needed to stay home and social distance in order to "flatten the curve" and here we are 3 months later and they are telling us the same thing again. This doesn't seem to apply to any liberal gathering or protest, just to ones that can be considered conservative.

Every year the 4th was a fun day for parades, food, and family-friendly fun but this year the government seeks to take all of that away. I'm sorry not sorry but I, and everyone else that I know have no intention of staying at home and will gather in as big a group as I want. If you try to arrest me, a protest will be made in the same fashion the likes of which as been seen for other "authorized" protests.

We've had enough of this shit and we will not allow the government to tell us what we can and can not do anymore.

There are also tourism oriented coastal cities such as Duck (yes, that is a real name of a beach city) Emerald Isle, and Swansboro that depend on tourism dollars during this time of year. You can bet that the inhabitants of these cities, even the liberals, are upset about this and hopefully will make a wise decision when it comes time for Roy Cooper's re-election which will hopefully result in him getting voted out.

sweet! appreciated!

i noticed that a lot of the population ignored the orders of the overbearing governments of their various cities. I'm quite sure the news is going to be extra dumb in the following days since obviously celebrating patriotism probably spreads covid the fastest of all possible things.

oh for sure. it isn't an approved activity so the covid will come fast and furious.

good job not listening. I don't keep in touch with many people since I don't really do a lot of FB'ing but the people i do speak to are dead tired of the lockdown and their communities feel the same.
