Are people really wanting to say Harris would be a better option than Biden?

I'm not enthused about Biden as the 2024 nominee, but even if he dropped out, I'm not sure how much it would change things. Harris leads hypothetical polling absent Biden.

Filing deadlines have mostly passed (and there are other state constraints) that basically mean it would be a contested convention as well. That probably even more tilts it towards Harris.

It makes more sense when you realize the Dem party is basically like 5 disparate coalitions forced together because the GOP is a hellscape. I really wish we had a parliamentary system.

It is what makes the Never Trumpers so funny in some sense to me. They agree on like 90% of issues. So you have Trump cultists burning Liz Cheney at the stake for her defiance of the cult leader as if she's a RINO. A cult in a homogeneous group makes for some funny events.

The best shot at a Biden alternative was probably a year ago Biden announcing he wouldn't run for a second term. But VPs have such a strong bias it'd still probably be hard to overcome a Harris nomination.

And Dems have an unfortunate history here of not really wanting to do contested primaries against incumbents, so it really would have needed Biden to choose to not run again.

Even more so with Trump. I don't think any established Democrat wanted to be remembered as the person who challenged Biden and helped elect Trump.
