You can't be both a liberal and a progressive.

I'm a classical liberal, meaning in part I support freedom for individuals, including to make their own mistakes.

Progressives think science can be effectively used by smarter, better rulers to collectively make decisions for individuals because they know better than the plebes. Their ideological history is inseparable from eugenics, forced sterilization, prohibition of choices like alcohol, opposition to basic rights like the freedom of speech and contract, and even opposition to democratic norms.

Their more recent iterations all still are undergirded by this belief that some enlightened thinkers know what's best for us and can be trusted with power over our lives.

They are the borg.

We are not widgets or cogs, we have different wants and needs, our differences are beautiful, and we cannot be micromanaged by numbers.
