The Federal Government Versus State Governments

in politics •  7 years ago

Its not a stretch to say that im not a huge fan of the federal government. I think in many cases they overstep their bounds and often try to play a role I dont think they were designed to do. While I do believe that when it comes to certain rights and legislation that has to be implemented across the board, they have their purpose, I ultimately think they should stay out of most issues happening within specific states. When it comes down to it I believe states having the power in their own territory is much more important and a better efficiency for everyone.

The United States is a large country, one that literally spans across two of the world's major oceans and contains people who live very different lives. Trying to compare the average Texan to the Average New Yorker is usually pretty hard. Many of the times they have different interests, ideas and ways of life. The best government to address the issues of the average Texan is the Texas government and the best government to address the average New Yorker is the New York State government. They know what their people need the most and are actually on the ground listening to their own, first hand.

Just like it did not make sense for a small island to rule the United States thousands of miles away, up until the revolution, it doesnt make sense for the Federal Government to regulate laws on states, that many times they dont know the main constituents. Smaller governments have always been able to address issues with more agility and specificity, so going through a middle man like the federal government doesnt make much sense. Letting the states and their people choose what is best for their own lives is how to operate effectively.

Our country is now more split than it might have ever been since the civil war and now. The federal government is finding it harder than ever to pass laws or address issues on a national level, because things arent that simple. In my opinion the Federal government's role should be to speak for the country and to facilitate trade and relations with other countries internationally. States should operate mostly as their own entities, with some federal aid, but keeping it to a minimum. The federal government stays as small as possible and for the most part only interferes if there are major problems.

In my opinion the United States is falling behind in efficiency because it is very hard for a nation so different and split up into 50 states to address each of their problems effectively. The federal government continues to overstep its bounds, telling the states what they can and cant do, which ultimately is hurting them. We can no longer create laws aimed at the “average American” because I dont think an average American really exists. Addressing the average in this situation would only mean giving everyone half of what they want. I think smaller governments can do a much better job addressing their own people and finding out what they need to succeed.

Amazing!

I seriously agree with your points in this post. Just to ensure that power ain't centralized, it's being distributed to many channels and sometimes the federal government has to face lots of challenges and critics before being able to pass down some bills.

Overall, it's a great content that adds more value to this amazing platform. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Waiting for your next post

I totally agree with you.

I can give a similar example from my country.

We've got more counties, cities, etc. than for example the UK, and we only have 4 million people.

We're known for corruption, only few parts of the country are good for living.

The more cities and counties you have, the harder it is to control them all and coordinate work of one city to another.

We had proposals to change that, and lower the amount of the towns, but the current government is corrupted and doesn't want to change that.

in the case of America , it is true as it is a large county with more than 50 states,
but for small countries federal government works

The role of the federal government definitely has changed since its inception, and how people feel about it as well. I think what makes our government inefficient and overbearing nowadays is the commercial interests inside the country itself, vying to get control to become more profitable.

It seems that our politicians sacrifice the people as they attempt to serve their other masters. It's more screwed up than it has ever been before. The question is, can we change it for the better? After all, this country was only an experiment and our govt an attempt to try something new. We as the people have the responsibility to try and fix things.

Nice post @calaber24p (74) Smaller governments has the way of been able to address issues with more ability and specificity,so Letting the states and their people choose what is best for their own lives

great posting

great posting

Until people, organization, government bodies etc understand their purpose, they will never get things right. Establishment or government para status have their jurisdiction and specific roles to play in the running of a nation but most times they venture and intrude where they are supposed to. Truly I agree with you on this one.
