The fifteen member council approved the most severe sanctions against the regime unanimously. They include, among other things, further restrictions on exports of coal, iron ore and seafood.

The penalties are an answer to two tests with intercontinental ballistic missiles conducted by North Korea last month.

Recently, a Pentagon intelligence report revealed that North Korea could build a rocket next year to reach the US mainland. That is much earlier than thought before.
