Based on the Office for National Statistics figures, here are the predicted future Islamic growth rates in England and Wales as a percentage of the overall population.

Year 2001

1,600,000 - Muslims
52,042,000 - Population of England and Wales
3.07% - Muslim Percentage of Overall Population

Year 2011

2,706,000 - Muslims
56,076,000 - Population of England and Wales
4.83% - Muslim Percentage of Overall Population

2014 (estimate)

3,046,000 - Muslims
57,400,000 - Population of England and Wales
5.3% - Muslim Percentage of Overall Population

2001 – 2011 saw an increase of 57% in the total population to 4.83%

2011 – 2014 saw an increase of 9.73% in the total population to 5.3% which predicts 2011 – 2021 to have an increase of approx 30% in total population to 6.27%

Based on a 30% growth from 2011 – 2021, the predicted growth of the Muslim population as a percentage of the overall population in England and Wales, if it remains at the same levels, will be:

2011 – 2021 – 6.27%
2021 – 2031 – 8.15%
2031 – 2041 – 10.6%
2041 – 2051 – 13.78%
2051 – 2061 - 17.91%
2071 – 2081 – 23.28%
2081 – 2091 – 30.2%
2091 – 2101 – 39.26%

The projected figures do not appear to be too drastic, however, growth will not remain at a constant level and the 30% growth rate may turn out to be an underestimate considering that:

  • There is at present one million plus illegal immigrants in the UK not accounted for in these figures who are probably mainly Muslim considering the countries they come from, and many of these people will also have children. In addition, illegal immigrants will continue to come to this country for many years to come in unknown quantities.
  • The non Islamic population has a relatively older population than the Islamic population which is likely to increase and accelerate future growth rates.
  • The census report may currently underestimate the Muslim population through non participation, not declaring religion and people not showing up in census data.

As Islam grows in the UK we have to challenge some of its scriptural content, thoughts and behaviour, plus the cultural practices of where people come from so that it Islam and foreign cultures become harmless to non Muslims, remain separate to Government, not be allowed to create Muslim only areas with Muslim laws (even unofficially) and not attempt to bring the UK and its people in line with Islamic ideologies, way of life and principles. If you don't like how we live here then don't come here to live! its simple. And if you do like how we live here then you are welcome, as long as there is enough space and resources.

Yes, if you are coming to a foreign country to live, you need to abide by the way of life in the country and respect it. You should not disregard the fact that you are here only because of this country giving you the place to live (unless you are an illegal immigrant) and take that for granted. Otherwise, go back to your own country!
