Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdul Aziz on Tuesday issued a royal order to grant women licenses to drive cars from next year, ending a decades-long ban on Saudi Arabia.
The official Saudi Press Agency (WAS) said that a royal order was issued by King Salman to adopt the provisions of the Traffic Law and its executive regulations - including driving licenses - for both males and females.
Finally, a royal order was issued to allow women to drive in Saudi Arabia
Prior to the decision, Saudi Arabia was the only country in the world to ban women from driving cars, based on opinions and fatwas of clerics opposed to them, despite the demands and extensive campaigns organized by Saudi women over the past years without official response.
