Bigotry is the new political culture.

I'm just kinda tossing this out there as an observation. We seem to have moved toward a culture, particularly politically, that values emotional sensitivity, and, really, the emoting of anger or sadness. We've been calling it "outrage culture." I'm not sure if that's the right term. There are things to be outraged about.

The thing is, on the other side of this culture is the demand of others to show outrage in the same way. "Why aren't you screaming and shouting with me? Why aren't your eyes welling up with tears? What? Don't you care?"

May I use the word "bigotry" for once? This is a bigotry against people who live in their own brains, internalize their emotions, and deal with anger differently. I think that "bigotry" is an appropriate word here because, we don't get to choose our own brains. People are getting flack about a component of who they are over which they have no control.

I'm outraged by the killing of George Floyd; but, I've never cried or screamed at anybody about it because that's not the person I am.

It's not just about politics and issues of justice; there is a cultural push. "Normalize men sharing their feelings." "Normalize men showing their emotions." These are noble. But, telling a person who is generally closed, calculated, and internalizes feelings to "open up" is like telling a person who's breaking down in tears to "calm down."

Like I said, the latter case is noble, at least in intent. There are people who are closed down because of pressures that maybe shouldn't exist. Still, it's a spectrum of nature versus nurture.

In the realm of politics, I think that this attitude is rather dangerous. It relegates value in activism to one personality type...to the people who shout the loudest. Some of us shout inside.
