"Stop treading on the lives that matter"?

Technically, I agree more with the sentiment "don't tread on anyone" than "don't tread on me". I mean, you know, as long as we're talking the initiation of force on the treading bits.

But the libertarians who insist on spouting the former every time someone utters the latter are the equivalent of the people who insist on responding with "all lives matter" every time someone says "black lives matter".

I feel like a lot of people who say black lives matter believe those who say all lives matter are generally racist, and a lot of people who say don't tread on anyone believe those who say don't tread on me generally don't care about others.

I'm not convinced that either of those assumptions are true. In my experience with people who have often used either phrase, most aren't those stereotypes at all. Maybe I'm insulated from those that are to some degree, but most people I know who say "ALM" aren't racist (at least not in the "I think this race is superior to that race because genetics" way that most people mean when they say racist), and most people I know who say "don't tread on me" tend to, if anything, care more about others than those who aren't political.
