Political Satire in a Toxic Election Year: That Poppy

If you have not already heard of Poppy, she is a musical project or creation of Titanic Sinclair, a director from Los Angeles California. Thanks to Titanic Sinclair she has developed into much more then your normal pop star, and into an internet goddess of sorts, with a cult following. 

Most people, when they first see one of Poppy's videos, are completely clueless about whats happening, and can't help but to quickly criticize and deem her crazy, creepy, strange, disturbing, some even questioning her safety as if she is being forced to do something, as if she is under some kind of mind control. This is all part of Poppy's character, in a way poking fun at celebrity idolatry, materialism, and in the case of this story politics. Titanic Sinclair uses the character Poppy to make a point of how childish and pointless everyone's opinion is, and how the current toxic election is fueled only by emotions. 

Under the facade of her her dark and mysterious videos, you will find alternate meanings sometimes they are right in front of your face, and others will take a bit more analyzing. In one video Poppy asks a plant whether we should vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. The dialog at the end plays into the childish and pointless narrative I explained earlier.
Dialog:
"Poppy: What do you think Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?
Plant: That’s a good question. I suppose I will vote for whichever candidate is gay.
Poppy: I think they’re both gay.
Poppy + Plant *Laughs*
Poppy: I like this plant."

Titanic Sinclair made a video attempting to capitalize off the emotions of voters this election with a Donald Trump pinata for $100, and yes you can buy one at his store for $100. The video seems to try and sympathize with people who are frustrated with Donald Trump, and want to take that frustration out by beating on a Donald Trump Pinata.

I find myself using That Poppy as a subject changer this election year, especially when I am asked who I support. I've seen people shunned or shammed for supporting Trump, and I have seen people cursed for supporting Hillary. This election year is toxic, and honestly the mature thing to do is to stay out of it. When someone asks who your voting for, tell them That Poppy! because when you think about it, does your opinion really matter?
