The leftists' main tactic, at least these days, is name calling and social shaming. They are being bullied to go farther left, and right wing and libertarian movements have been pushed underground online (where they actually are gaining power)
I'm sure there were right wing movements that did this in the past, but at this point in time the main threat to free speech is the name-calling left.
The leftists are doing it now, it was the rightists in the 1980's. Whoever can be seen using the tyrants tactics and strategies is readily identifiable. The authoritarian dynamic is obvious. Saul Alinsky was a poor man's Machiavelli, but he distilled the material for his instruction manual for subversion well. Ridicule works in the minds of the simple, whether it be the ridiculer or the ridiculed.
