Why Youtube "debates" suck.

Debating is just not what it used to be.

The current debate format between non-politics youtubers is strictly academic (and not in the good way, but in the way that has no real practical use) - as in the sense that the favorite style of debate is to be intellectually dishonest where the primary function is not to let your vision exposed to influences from anyone else. This is the result of the absorption of the political fraud to the discussion platform (a platform that used to be pure).

This is what we came to expect from real politics - from people with an agenda, donors (well, at least some), where the discussion of issues is turned into a game. The most important thing, apparently, is to see who will make the blunders, who will dish out the most sick burn and who will be able to convey the most appealing platitudes.

But im not too worried - I know, just like in everything else, it is just a matter of time so that the average person can come to realize what need to be talked about and in what terms - especially with the internet.

But for the moment....It sucks. With this incredible platform, all we can come up with is imitating what has been done for the past centuries? The best we have is setting up base on top of a position we don't fully understand (as these positions are the consequence of several influences from many sectors of society) and defend it blindly with not only knowledge limitaitons but also with time constraints and obviously done so on behalf of someone else?

The main goal seems to be to get out of the ring on your feet and not contribute to the critical thinking of society.

But then again, saying the other part is terrible will bring a lot more views than just presenting facts through an act of persuasion that tries to show where you are standing and where is the next step.

So I can't really blame youtubers for appealing to their base - but i can blame the base. I can blame them for being ignorant and falling for pop-politics. I can blame the base for falling for pre-determined loaded sentences that almost no one know the real purpose of that idea, but still continue to appeal for it. And I do - I blame them for everything wrong in politics today.
