I'm not sold on this theory, but the narrative goes:
Here's the rationale. Marijuana legalization would:
Increase voter turnout among young people
Lead many Libertarians to vote for Democrats
Lead many Independents to vote for Democrats
Increase voter turnout overall
(Republicans win when voter turnout is low. Republicans also get advantages from many people who classify themselves as "Libertarians", but in reality only want marijuana to be legal)
I think most Libertarians would (should) NEVER vote Democrat because they are the party of big spending and big government with no limits. After Bernie Sanders' success, they might just become the Socialist party.

For me, both the Democratic and the Republican parties have lost their confidence, I think it is the perfect time for third parties to grow. Do not you think there is any chance that the Libertarian party has gained strength for the next elections? Affecting both parties, but obviously more to the Republicans.
I think that two candidates as "anti-system" as Trump and Sanders are explicit shows that the bipartisanship is dying.
