I tend to agree with you and some states divide their electors in one fashion or another. It pushes the level of direct democracy one step lower. If every state did this it would be more fair for everyone, but would tend to benefit those in rural areas more. Electing the president by popular vote is nothing more than a power grab attempt by the Democrats. They know most of the voters in cities vote along more liberal lines than rural areas, so as cities grow they become more powerful.
