How And Why Do Some Segments of Society Seriously Deny The Holocaust?steemCreated with Sketch.

The original fake news

As a big fan of both Israel and Poland, I felt the need to write this article. In her book 'Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory' Deborah Lipstadt looks at the history behind the holocaust deniers.

Lispstadt starts by saying that she sees it all as a pseudo-history promoted by anti-Semitic types, and it should be disregarded for the nonsense that it is.

Where did it all begin?

After World War II, Nazi sympathisers in America began to rise and come to prominence. A Professor of English at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania was the first to break ranks. He denied the Nazi's had any genocidal intent, and that Germany was compelled to admit to its crimes against humanity by the winning Allies. This indeed became the ball for the hard right. They indeed picked it up and ran with ever since.

Krakow, Poland

Lipstadt does defend that the 6 million Jews killed were not gassed, but died from disease and the terrible state of conditions in the camps. Only 1.5 million were truly exterminated, which is around the population of Krakow, Poland today.

Auschwitz lies nearby as a permanent shadow on the city of Krakow, and now only tourists trail out in the busloads to see the death camps.

I find the deniers of the holocaust to be sympathisers of Nazism or of Fascism and/or terribly ignorant or just pretty damn stupid! What do you think? Comments below as always.

It's a perspective conflict and shows how little perspective some people have. Justifying killing that many people is hard to do by anyone's standards unless they are just destructive and fearful beings.

Thank God for the kinder world of Steemit @philosophy-trail
One blockchain. One love.<3

Preach!

Sounds like a new Steemit marketing tagline to me:
Steemit: One Blockchain. One Love.<3

I have never been able to see how anyone can deny the Holocaust in the face of the overwhelming supporting evidence but then again so is the evidence for evolution and people deny that. I think deniers of the Holocaust are all you say they are. A thought provoking post @mindhunter. I will have to look up that book you mentioned.

How 'bout a shot of truth in that denial cocktail ;) That book is an excellent read for anyone interested in Jewish history as well @maninayton

Cheers :-)

Steem on my friend ... good see your reputation rising nicely too :)

Getting there slowly. Take care.

By reputation 60 you'll be an old sea-dog of the Steemit high seas! Ha ha!

People will deny things they can't or don't want to comprehend.
Or they will deny things that stand in their way.

That doesn't make the facts disappear. That just makes them ignorant.
One of the reasons the west supports Israel today is through the guilt they feel for not doing anything to stop the extermination, even though the governments knew it was going on.

The UK government is pushing Israel more now towards a two state solution to abolish the 'slums in a cage by the sea 'that are the West Bank and Ramallah.

Good for them. The sooner all peoples are free the better.

Send all aid to Palestine via the blockchain, so Israel can't get its muddy paws on it. Use Ethereum smart contracts to negotiate the peace! Blockchain them both to death with peace :) SORTED!!

I think they are psychopath

A grim but true assessment Ale.

those are things that I hate! They make me mad

I'm sure you've come up against the Fascists your whole life in Italy!

my grandfather did and also the family of my grandmother, but it seems granny was too good and he did not kill enough of them :D, now I calm down, relax Ale relax... Ale thinks about chocolate and sex, nothing is happen and my wall are all green like in the madhouse :D :D

... and relax ....

uhm new picture to relax, see my last blog

Ony my way for a looko .... :)

To fit their agenda. I don't deny the holocaust causr you'd have to have half a brain to deny it, I personally feel the rest handled the situation poorly afterwards. It's easier for them to deny that to feel sympathy for a people they care nothing about.

Most men would rather deny a hard truth than face it @sumerianprince

Why live in reality and accept its casualties when they can live in a dream they can't wake up from?

The original Matrix indeed.

sick

Thank you for your support Lena. Thank you.

you are welcome

Are you saying you agree with Lipstadt?

Yes.

That's a crime in most countries to deny the holocaust.
@mindhunter what do you think about that fact?

These laws have also been criticized on the grounds that education is more effective than legislation at combating Holocaust denial and that the laws will make martyrs out of those imprisoned for their violation.

I believe that because of people having to question pretty much everything that has been fed to us over the years, things like this are born. I don't know that it happened, but, I think it did. Some people think that if some of it is a lie, then it all must be.
The fact that this is news is to distract people from the genocides happening right in front of us right this minute. If it did happen, there is nothing to be done about it now. We can stop the ones happening in the present if we can pull our heads out of the past.

The age of rapacious empires is now with us Matt. As Sting once famously sang "History will teach us nothing"!

We should learn from history in order to not repeat it. I wish it would be so. People should realise that historically, governments commit genocide and should be abolished. Then we would have no genocide. Hopefully...

I like that plan Matt. Thanks for all your comments as always :) Steem on my friend!
